Everyone’s going a bit Fire Emblem crazy at the minute, thanks mostly to the apparently-exceptional Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS, which is due out this week. To my shame, I had very little awareness of Fire Emblem prior to the first time I came across Marth and Roy in the Super Smash Bros. series, but I was struck with how spectacularly awesome this theme tune was. In fact, so smitten was I with it that I did a bit of fiddling with add-ons and managed to get it to play every time I started riding my horse in World of Warcraft. It made even the most mundane runs across the world feel somehow “epic,” and played a significant role in keeping me playing Blizzard’s classic long after I’d become somewhat tired of it.
This particular incarnation of the theme is from the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack, which combined both classic themes in their original sound formats with all-new orchestral remixes. I never really got into the intricacies of Smash Bros.’ gameplay, but that incredible soundtrack kept me coming back time after time.
