I’m showing my age now. This track hails from Fantasy World Dizzy, a game that came out in 1989 for the wide variety of home computers available at the time. This particular “mix” is from the Atari ST version. The Commodore Amiga, the Atari ST’s main rival, may well have had better internal sound capabilities than the ST, but the ST’s three-channel bleep-bloop sounds certainly had their charms — particularly when wielded with such skill as composer Allister Brimble frequently demonstrated.
Allister Brimble, for those who are unaware, is one of the most prolific game music composers in existence. Unlike many other of the “big name” composers from the 8- and 16-bit era of home computing, Brimble is still working today, with his recent work including the credits theme for Alien Breed Evolution on Xbox Live Arcade, Sega theme remixes for the DS version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and the soundtrack to Fluidity/Hydroventure for WiiWare.
