Nintendo’s news this morning ended with a bang in the form of an official announcement for Hironobu Sakaguchi’s The Last Story on the Wii. According to Nintendo Direct, the game will be released later this year. In a somewhat unusual move for the Nintendo of America, the game’s localization and publishing duties will be handled by niche RPG publisher XSEED Games rather than Nintendo itself.
The Last Story combines some elements of traditional Japanese RPGs with a cover-based battle system more reminiscent of modern action games like the Gears of War series. The game was released in Japan a year ago, and launches in Europe today.
