In what will surely be welcome news to the bruised wallets of Japanese import gamers everywhere, Atlus USA has announced via their Twitter account that the fighting game based on the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series (entitled Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena for Japan) will be released in North America this summer under the slightly-less-wordy moniker of Persona 4 Arena.
The game, developed by Arc System Works for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, takes characters from the Persona 3 and 4 role-playing games and places them into a 2D fighting game in the vein of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. The full cast of fighters hasn’t been revealed yet but does include fan favorites such as the niku-obsessed Chie Satonaka and the brilliant-yet-vulnerable Mitsuru Kirijo. More information will surely be announced leading up to the game’s August release, as the game is set to launch in Japanese arcades later this Spring.
