Release of the Week: Infinity Blade II (iOS)

It isn’t very often that the week’s biggest game is on the iOS. Publishers tend to push rather hard to get their games out before Black Friday as they apparently want to make money. Downloadable games, especially those in the mobile space, aren’t as particular. This is especially true when you have the brand power of Infinity Blade and Epic Games.

When Infinity Blade was released last December, it became the fastest grossing game in iOS history. It made a cool 1.6 million dollars in four days. Epic Games used Infinity Blade to show off the Unreal 3 Engine on the iOS platform, which is actually a little… unreal. Using swipe based combat, players swipe the screen to parry enemies attacks and strike them down. This allows for exciting combat without those pesky virtual joysticks.

Infinity Blade II builds upon its groundbreaking predecessor. While Infinity Blade was repetitive and light on content, Infinity Blade II is no mere tech demo. There are twice as many enemy types that players will defeat while playing as one of three character classes. You can opt to wield a heavy two-handed weapon, duel-wield a pair of weapons or stick to your tried and true sword and shield. A new gem-slotting system will further allow players to customize their gaming experience.

Infinity Blade II will easily be one of the best looking 3D games on the iOS. It might be a bit expensive compared to other iOS games, but you need something to get you through that dreaded holiday travel, don’t you? Just be careful and don’t burn through your phone’s battery while your plane sits on the tarmac. Your family might appreciate being told that you missed your connecting flight.
