The Zelda Experiment

The Legend of Zelda ExperimentIf you’ve talked to me in the last week or seen my rants on Twitter, then you know that I’ve hit a massive wall-o’-frustration with Ocarina of Time 3D.  never played the original game back on the N64, because–as Blake would say–I’m old. The N64 released when I was in college, and while I was too poor at the time to make the purchase, I wouldn’t have anyway because I wasn’t into gaming back then… well, at least not gaming beyond Dr. Mario on the NES. So yeah, I’m rather late to the game, and as such I don’t have all the feelings of nostalgia blinding me towards the game’s outdated control scheme. I’ve been told by numerous people that without the nostalgia I won’t enjoy the game as much, if at all.

Personally, I’m wondering a little bit if it has more to do with playing the game on the 3DS than playing it on a console.

That could be a really desperate and laughable wish, but it’s gotten me thinking about giving Ocarina a chance on a console. I still don’t have an N64–I hated that controller so much I wouldn’t buy one anyway–but I do have a GameCube that has the Legend of Zelda Collection, which includes Ocarina of Time.

Henceforth, I’m going to start a Zelda Experiment. I’ve only beaten one Zelda game in my life, and I was told it wasn’t a real Zelda game. So I’m going to try out many of the beloved Zelda games and play them until I either rage quit or beat them. This list will include Ocarina, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, A Link to the Past, and Link’s Awakening (snatched from the eShop at E3!).

Has Zelda aged as well as other Nintendo games of the past? This Zelda n00b/scientist is going to find out, and then write it about to enrage fans, start conversation, annoy those who don’t care, and overall, boost my ego.

I should probably move my coffee table as I am prone to fits of furniture flipping rage when it comes to Nintendo games.
