Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is the latest game featured in Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade. It can be described as a Metroid-vania style exploration adventure shooter game. You control an alien in a spaceship who must collect various tools in order to progress. Tools include various blasters, buzz saws, and scanners that are used to destroy enemies you encounter and solve puzzles blocking your path.
The planet you explore will include several types of zones. Each zone has a different theme, including ice, swamp, and underwater. In each zone you will have to battle past monsters such as giant spiders or jellyfish and use your tools to solve environmental puzzles. The art style is beautiful, with a mostly black character and foreground with a very colorful and busy background, which really makes your space ship and enemies really pop out.
Despite its impressive visuals, the world of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is extremely dangerous. Navigating through deadly environments and their inhabitants will be tricky. There will be some bullet hell moments as well as some intense chase sequences as you attempt to escape from some overwhelming odds. The addition of four player co-op means that you can bring some friends along for those frantic rides. For those that can tame its wild side, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet should be a real treat. Don’t let this summer thrill ride pass you by!
