This week has some notable re-releases on new platforms. Summer of Arcade hits From Dust and Bastion make their way to PC this week. The Wii classic No More Heroes is getting HD treatment as it gets re-released for the PlayStation 3 in the form of No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise. If you bought a Move then you almost have to pick up Heroes Paradise.
Strategy fans will get something new this week as Microsoft and Gas Powered Games launch Age of Empires Online. This game is a bit different then previous Age of Empires games. Each player will manage a city that will act as a research hub for your armies. Here you can assign buildings to gather resources or craft new weapons or abilities. Once your army is tuned to your liking, it’s time to accept some missions. Cities exist persistently online, so it will be important for you to log in every once and a while to manage your buildings.
The missions play much more like classic Age of Empires RTS games. You will be building workers and soldiers, gathering berries, and invading your opponent’s towns. Missions can be completed cooperatively, so make sure to bring your friends along. Of course, you don’t have to play nice…you could engage in some player versus player if you prefer.
Perhaps the best part of Age of Empires Online is that it is a free download. The Greek and Egyptian civilizations will be available at launch with the Celtic and Persian civilizations will release at a later date.
