In case you have not heard, the PSN is down, and it has been down for far tooooooo long. The reasons for the PSN being down are irrelevant for this article, but what is relevant is that gamers looking for some multiplayer action on their beloved PS3 are left to calling one another and trash talking on the phone instead of tea bagging one another online.

While this surely sucks, it has put a spotlight on the lackluster single-player campaigns that exist in games these days. Sure, there are some great stories in games like inFamous, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and more, but with so much focus shifting to multiplayer and co-op gaming, the single-player side of the action gets shorter and sometimes even cobbled together. The sad thing is that this wasn’t far from the truth no more than five years ago.

Yes, back in the “old school” days, gamers were engaged with great stories, lovely game play, and copious amounts of thrilling entertainment. All this was easily playable with one controller and no need for crappy networks. This was also the same time period that developers knew there were more colors than brown, but that is a different article.

What say you community? Do you still enjoy the single-player games of today? How do the stories stack up to those of yesteryear? Is single-player action a thing of the past as we continue to see the online aspect grow and mature? Tell us your thoughts!
