Rumor: Sony Has Set the Price for the NGP at $250…and $350

According to the latest rumors from Kotaku, a survey conducted by Toluna–which was sponsored by Ubisoft, no less–asked two questions of respondents that mentioned the price of the NGP. The first one asked, “The retail price of the Sony NGP is expected to be around $350. How likely would you be to purchase the Sony NGP now that you know this retail price?” The second question explained that the NGP version without 3G capability would sell for $100 less at $250.

Sony Europe has already confirmed that there will be two versions of the NGP, one with 3G connectivity and one without, so it should come as no surprise that there would be a price difference between the two. Even the Barnes & Noble Nook and the iPad have two different prices for devices with 3G and without. However, no one was quite sure how steep the price difference would be.

Granted, this is not an official survey from Sony, and Sony has not commented on it so far. Nevertheless, the fact that the survey was sponsored by a major publisher and was worded so specifically really adds some weight to the credibility of the price rumors.

If this is true, and we are looking at a $100 price difference between the models, will that affect your decision on which version to buy?

For me personally, I have no idea. I have 3G connectivity for both my Nook and my iPad, but I’m not sure how much I will really use the 3G on a device that is just for gaming, especially since I rarely play games online or with others.
