Malloosings: The Beginning is a Very Delicate Time…

Game time: Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360)

This was the day I was to conquer the massive task of killing 72,000 zombies in one playthrough to pick up the Z-Genocider 2 (Kill 53,596 zombies) and Zombie Genocider (Kill 72,000 zombies) Achievements. This type of playthrough took planning. First off, the player better have all of the vehicles unlocked. So that means in previous playthroughs, the player should have earned plenty of money and purchased the keys to the death-machines. I did not do this, so I had to hit the slots. This was a mind-numbing task and sort of annoying as the zombies are attracted to the sound of the machines, like geeks to Linda Carter at a Comic-Con.

The best of both worlds....so approachable

My parenting skills were horrible on this playthrough, as I neglected Katey and gave her no Zombrex. Instead I stayed out all hours picking up gambling magazines, playing slots, and drinking vodka and whiskey. When I got the the call that Katey desperately needed Zombrex, I felt a little guilty, but then I played more slots and figured the folks in the safe house would work it out. Once I secured enough funds to get the Big Spender Achievement (spend 6 million dollars), I bought the various keys from the pawn shops and ended my playthrough.

Since I had completed the necessary vehicular acquisitions, I thought I was ready for the massive task at hand, but I realized the monotony would likely drive me to murder survivors again. So I had to take a step to stay the madness.

Music Interlude

I decided that music would sooth my homicidal tendencies so I made a playlist to stream while I commenced with the slaughter:

From K-Tel!

  • Ministry - Burning Inside
  • KMFDM – Search & Destroy
  • Methods of Mayhem – Crash
  • Revolting Cocks – Attack Ships on Fire
  • Static-X – Push It
  • Front 242 – Religion
  • Butthole Surfers – Who Was In My Room Last Night
  • ChemLab- Codeine, Glue, and You
  • Front 242 – Modern Angel (KMFDM remix)
  • MDFMK – Witchhunt
  • Nitzer Ebb – Getting Closer
  • Funker Vogt – Body Count
  • Skinny Puppy – Hexxonexxon
  • Die Krupps – Iron Man
  • Nine Inch Nails – Last

These choices seemed correct for the type of mission I had planned. The process I had in mind, seemed fine.

Game time: Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360)

As soon as I started I headed to the pharmacy for some Zombrex for Katey. I needed to complete the basic story missions in order to get the Overtime mode to provide enough game time to complete this Zombie genocide. To help my cause, I grabbed a magazine to make the SUV harder to destroy. From there I headed to the SUV and ran zombies over for hours of game time, while playing any storyline missions that occurred. Eventually a psychopath wanted to play games with me and I had to indulge him and open up the Slicecycle.

Not the Slicecycle

The actual Slicecycle was a motorcycle with chainsaws attached to it. This was my preferred method of zombie destruction and the music was serving me well. I killed zombies by the thousands. The music did help inspire my bloodbath. Even with angry, angry music, as I feared, this did get monotonous, so I took a break to play something else.

Game time: Rock Band 3 (Xbox 360)

I have been playing some form of Rock Band online since its launch. My preferred weapon is the bass. Eventually I found some good friends to play with and we have continued for over two years. Our shenanigans typically consist of just having a good time and some sort of adult beverages. My choice was a winter time classic: The Glenlivet (a single malt Scotch imbibed at a reasonable speed is an excellent choice for online rocking out). We mainly focused on songs that I had not scored on yet. Due to the years of play, we have hundreds of songs from previous Rock Band games (Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Lego: Rock Band, AC/DC Rock Band…)as well as downloads, so we often do this to help each other out. One of the most amusing things during our session was my friend Captain’s continued annoyance with one of his other friends, because they seemed to barely outscore him on vocals 9 times out of 10.

NEWMAN!

NOTE: If you want to discover a great song to play in Rock Band or just give a listen to, check out Put Your Hands Together, by The New Pornographers.
Next time: More on my Zombie extermination, Young Justice thoughts, and some City of Heroes.
