Homefront Leaks, Kaos Studios Not Too Happy

The upcoming modern military shooter from THQ and Kaos Studios, Homefront, has been leaked onto the internet. While the source of the leak is still unknown, the game is (for the time being) unplayable, at least until pirates are able to crack the games copyright protection. As with anyone that sees years of their blood, sweat, and tears appear for free on the internet,  Kaos general manager and creative director, David Votypka, expressed anger and disappointment to the unknown parties that leaked the game.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Votypka bemoaned the leak, stating:

“Obviously we’re pretty disappointed in the people that did it. Those people obviously have no idea what it takes to make these games, or at least have no respect for it, if they’re leaking them out for free…”

“The consumer world and capitalism is based on, the company will spend money on a product so consumers can buy it, so the company makes a profit and can make more and better products down the road. So when these guys get involved they’re just hurting that, which hurts everybody.”

With the release of Homefront only a week away (March 15th), the full extent of the damage caused by piracy will remain unknown for some time. The leak of the game has more then anything simply contributed to the media storm that Homefront has been over the past few weeks, with coverage ranging from the bad (The GDC balloon stunt that saw thousands of balloons pollute San Francisco Bay.) to the good (Homefront is the most preordered game in THQs history with 200,000 copies reserved, and analysts predicting an initial shipment of 1.5 million units), and you know what they say – any publicity is good publicity.
