What I previously reported as rumor has now been confirmed; A remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is coming this holiday season. Joystiq has learned that the game is being handled by Saber Interactive, whose previous credits include TimeShift, and the upcoming Inversion.
The remake will feature an updated control scheme, online integration (Multiplayer & Co-Op) as well as sport upgraded graphics running in 1080p 3D. It is unclear at this point what engine is powering this latest entry, as the most likely candidate, the same one that powered last fall’s Halo Reach, has not been confirmed. While this is pure speculation on my part, Saber and 343i may have settled on Saber’s proprietary engine when it was decided that the title would have 3D support, with the possibility that the Reach engine wasn’t designed with the constraints that development in 3D presents.
We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out the answers to these questions and more, as the game is coming in a scant 10 months on the 10th anniversary of the original, Novemeber 15th, 2011.
Anyone have a personal wishlist for the remake? If I had my way I’d make the whole thing (or at least the multiplayer) downloadable, as always having a multiplayer Halo option ready to go at a moments notice is about the only thing that would compel me to pick this remake up.
