New NGP Details at Private Event

Yeah, more news on the NGP, which has got us all atwitter here at GrE HQ. Here’s the scoop:

Sony seems serious about getting developers to get them games for the NGP. According to one Eurogamer source, “for a kit to be delivered before April a studio must supply a “20-page concept document on a game they want to release at launch.”

Some details are inferred from the difference in launch date language. Says Eurogamer: “But during yesterday’s presentation, Sony listed the Wi-Fi only edition of NGP as “2011″, while the Wi-Fi plus 3G version was listed as “Holiday Season 2011″, implying that the 3G-enabled console would not be available day one.” Which really isn’t too much of a surprise, as we’ve seen this kind of thing with the iPad and Nook Color recently.

First party demos included Uncharted, Little Deviants and WipEout, which one source told Eurogamer was running the same exact engine as the one from the PS3, which means some serious graphical horsepower in there, folks.

Eurogamer continued: “‘They want us to do cross-platform,’ said the source, explaining that the submission process has been streamlined, with only a single submission required for a title on PSN and NGP.’” In addition, all developers were told that any games included on the new flash storage mediums would also need to be delivered on the PSN.

All in all, things are looking up for the NGP, with some solid leadership from Sony on the way games are developed for the platform. That can only mean good things for us gamers.
