Magicka Review Coming… eventually

An unfortunate side effect of living in the Internet age is the fact that games can be released broken with the expectation of mass-patching post-launch. This can happen with smaller studios like Stardock in the case of Elemental: War of Magic or even to bigger AAA games like Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas. No matter how bug ridden a game is, gamers always lose out.

Sadly, this is the case when it comes to indie gem Magicka from Arrowhead Studios. While its humor and unique spell casting style have lead to admirable sales numbers, the game was obviously released before it was ready. While attempting to review the game, bugs have caused everything from glitching past boss fights to outright crashes in multiplayer sessions.

To Arrowhead’s credit, they are committed to stomping out as many of these bugs as possible. They apparently have staff working around the clock on patches that they’ve been releasing regularly since the game’s release. Many of the problems that have caused me great frustration while playing were patched up the next day.

Because of this, we have decided to hold off on the review of Magicka until the patching process slows down. It doesn’t do any good for us or our readers if we publish a review highlighting problems with the game that disappear right after the review goes live. Stay tuned and expect a review sometime next week.
