For those who didn’t know that 2011 is going to be the year of the RPG, here’s another log to throw on that fire: Dungeon Siege III. Square Enix has partnered up with Obsidian to bring us not another JRPG, but a revitalization of a popular RPG-franchise from the PC. Despite what you may have heard from retailers online (*coughGameStopcough*), the official release date for DSIII is May 31, 2011. Now you have plenty of time to finish Dragon Age 2, Two Worlds II, or your third time to complete Mass Effect 2.
Time will tell if Dungeon Siege III will live up to Square Enix’s promises, but for now, we have some pretty, pretty box art to drool over. I think I’ve found the design for my next tattoo right there.
If you aren’t the artistic type, then maybe some preorder goodies will grab your attention? I know Ross will be seething over this, but here is what you can pick up at these retailers if you choose to preorder DSIII:
GameStop
- Burning Band of Scorch -This exclusive preorder in-game ring increases the raw damage of a player’s attacks and sets all foes ablaze with any weapon.

Steam
Players who prepurchase DUNGEON SIEGE III will get three games for the price of one, as Valve will offer single-player versions of both DUNGEON SIEGE I and DUNGEON SIEGE II as free downloads for PC platforms.Amazon.com
Bite of the Arakun – in-game ring that grants the player the ability to poison enemies with lingering injury or soften their defenses, leaving them vulnerable for follow-up attacks.Best Buy
Sacred Heart of the Legion – in-game amulet that increases a player’s health and pushes close combat assailants back each time the bearer is struck in battle.Walmart
Mini-comic from Dark Horse Comics and a free mini-strategy guide from Prima Games
I’m a huge strategy guide collector, so as much as I dislike Walmart, that may be where I preorder, if indeed I decide to do so. Aw, who am I kidding. I preordered a Nintendo 3DS, so you know I preorder games. Often.
