Portal 2 on PS3 Includes a Free Steam Copy, Adds Cross Platform Chat

In a press release sent out this morning, Valve revealed some details about the upcoming cross platform launch of Portal 2. The game will be available on PC or Mac via Steam, the company’s flagship multiplayer and digital distribution platform, as well as the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. In an interesting turn of events, PS3 owners of Portal 2 will get some fantastic extras, including cross-platform multiplayer chat and the ability to link their Steam and PS3 accounts to have the save games kept on Steam servers. In addition, PS3 owners will get a free copy of Portal 2 for their PC or Mac via Steam. This says to us that PS3 owners will be able to buy the game for PS3, play on the console, save the game on Steam’s servers, and then pick up the same saved game on their Mac or PC. What glory! What joy! And what a nice way to tell 360 owners to suck it.

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

Stay tuned right here for news and details as they arrive, on Portal 2 and your other favorites. Portal 2 is slated for release in April of this year.
