New Mass Effect 2 DLC Confirmed

The Cerberus Network daily news, available on the home screen of Bioware’s epic space RPG, is set to go on indefinite hiatus come the one year anniversary of the game’s launch on January 24th.  Fortunately, the system that has added to Mass Effect canon in bite sized news blurbs won’t be going away forever as it is set to resume with newly confirmed DLC that will be released later this year, presumably for both the Xbox 360 and the forthcoming PS3 versions of the game.

“Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011: A week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3.”

While no official confirmation or release date has come beyond this vague announcement, it certainly seems as if new content is on its way. In the last DLC Pack, Lair of The Shadow Broker, events transpired that will more then likely have implications in Mass Effect 3, so it will be interesting to see if the next batch of content will expand or bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and 3 even further.

Taking off my news hat for a moment and putting on my “Mass Effect 2 was the best game of 2010 hat,” I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if the new DLC pack will have something to do with your Alliance teammate from the first game, Ashley Williams or Kaidan Alenko, as they make a brief appearance in the  main story of Mass Effect 2, but beyond that are absent.

If you haven’t been able to keep up with the Cerberus Daily News, a fansite was set up which posted all of the daily updates, and is a great read if you’ve got a few hours and want to have your knowledge of the Mass Effect Universe extended.

Mass Effect 2 is set for release on the Playstation 3 in just a few short weeks on January 18th.
