The Witcher was one of the best PC RPGs in recent years. Featuring a memorable protagonist, great graphics, an engrossing story and gameplay that was fun and engaging, fans have been clamoring for a return to Geralt’s world ever since. (Also, there were boobies.)
Today, publisher CD PROJEKT RED has announced a variety of special bonuses for those ordering the new game now. Most interesting among these are the bonuses available for pre-ordering via CD PROJEKT RED’s digital distribution site, Good Old Games.
The Digital Premium Edition of the game comes with a fine selection of extras. These include a manual and game guide in PDF format, a soundtrack in MP3 format, a “Making Of” video, a PDF papercraft Geralt who comes out looking like he belongs in Minecraft, along with a selection of PDF maps and letters.
Those who pre-order the game through Good Old Games also get a PDF artbook and one of five games from GOG’s catalog of retro classics for free. The games available under the promotion are Beyond Divinity, Divine Divinity, Gothic 2 Gold Edition, Realms of Arkania 1+2 or Realms of Arkania 3. These are worth between $5.99 and $9.99 each and are all decent, lengthy games in their own right. Not a bad deal.
But wait, there’s more, as they say. Pre-ordering from GOG also gives players immediate access to 4 music tracks, 10 HD wallpapers, a photo tour of CD PROJEKT RED and 10 The Witcher-themed avatars.
In a move sure to please European customers, too, Good Old Games has enacted a “Fair Price Package” promotion for The Witcher 2. Customers from Europe and the UK receive a GOG store credit for the price difference between their pre-order price and the worldwide one. This equates to a $6 credit, enough to purchase many of the titles on GOG for free.
For those who prefer alternative digital distribution services, The Witcher 2 will also be available via Steam. This version will feature Steam Cloud support for backing up saves online.
For those who prefer a box full of “collectibles” to proudly display on and/or clutter their shelves, the Collector’s Edition package is also available. It contains all the content from the Digital Premium Edition as hardcopies rather than PDFs. Alongside that, there is also a marble-imitation sculpture of Geralt’s head, a set of 5 “poker dice”, some stickers, a coin, a set of The Witcher-themed playing cards and a guide filled with tips and tricks on how to win at dice and cards. Those who purchase the Collector’s Edition will also have access to additional DLC which varies according to where the game was purchased. The Collector’s edition will set you back a cool $129.99—not cheap, but that’s a ton of goodies bundled in with the game itself.
Plenty of choices for fans of the series to make, then. The game itself is looking great already, so watch out for it in May of next year.
