In an announcement issued today, Nintendo stated that game demos would once again be available on the WiiWare download service following their disappearance in February. The initial offering will include demos for Furry Legends, Jett Rocket, ThruSpace and Zombie Panic in Wonderland which will be available for consumption by Wii console users this coming Friday.
The previous availability and subsequent pulling of demos from the service was consistent with Nintendo’s view of offering the feature on a “trial basis.” It seems counter-intuitive to add needed functionality to a download service only to pull it at a later date, so hopefully Nintendo has rectified this misstep by making demos a permanent part of the platform.
In Club Nintendo news, a few new rewards have made their way to the service for US users. A tote bag featuring the ever present Mario mushroom as well as a messenger bag with a super star design are both available for 250 and 550 coins respectively. Two exclusive screensavers are also up for download with the first chronicling the history of the Mario franchise and the second pulling gameplay scenes from Super Mario Galaxy 2 – both available for a paltry 10 coins a piece. Lastly is a set of 4 commemorative pins that will run you a staggering 450 coins each. Depending on the numbers that these are produced in, they could either be a great collectors item or a huge waste of points – By my math and the current 60 points you get for registering a game and completing the post play survey, a complete set would cost over $1500.
Head on over to the Club Nintendo page for more info about the new prizes, and look for new demos on WiiWare this coming Friday.
