Super Mario All-Stars LE Coming December 12

In what seemed like a formality at this point, Nintendo announced that the 25th anniversary Super Mario All-Stars compilation will be heading to the US on December 12th for $29.99. Coming as no surprise, especially after the limited edition red Wii and DSiXL bundles were confirmed for America earlier this month, All-Stars will feature the original four titles in the series  (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels) in the SNES graphically upgrade style. Although already available on the Wii’s Virtual Console, if you haven’t already picked up the original NES/Famicom versions the $29.99 price point seems appropriate, especially considering the extras that accompany the game will include a soundtrack featuring compositions from a number of Mario titles, as well as a 32 page art book chronicling the history of the series. (Note: Pictured to the side is the Japanese box art for the title, but based on the contents of both editions, the US box-art will likely be quite similar)

Even though I’m glad that this package is making it’s inevitable stateside appearance, I can’t help but be a tad disappointed as this was the perfect opportunity to sell me a Wii NES or SNES controller. This may come off as a petty complaint, but I simply can’t stand holding the Wii-Remote sideways, it just isn’t comfortable for my man hands. Barring some amazing Club Nintendo announcement, the  Limited Edition Wii which comes with NSMB Wii and a red Wii Remote Plus seems like the best anniversary bang for your buck at 199.99.

Head on over to the Mario 25th Anniversary portal for information (and some pretty sweet looking wallpapers) about all things related to the  mustached Plumber’s silver day.
