Microsoft Confirms Kinect Launch Lineup

Thinking about grabbing a Kinect next month but unsure what games will be available? Fret no more, as Microsoft has officially announced 17 games that will debut alongside the device. Here’s the rundown:

  • Kinect Adventures (included with hardware)
  • Kinectimals ($49.99/$59.99 collector’s edition)
  • Game Party: In Motion ($39.99)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 ($49.99)
  • Your Shape: Fitness Evolved ($49.99)
  • Dance Central ($49.99)
  • The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout ($49.99)
  • Dance Master ($49.99)
  • EA Sports Active 2 ($99.95 – includes heart monitor)
  • Zumba Fitness ($49.99)
  • Kinect Sports ($49.99)
  • MotionSports ($49.99)
  • Deca Sports Freedom (no price listed)
  • Kinect Joy Ride ($49.99)
  • Adrenaline Misfits ($49.99)
  • Fighters Uncaged ($49.99)
  • Sonic Free Riders ($49.95)

Looking at the launch lineup things seem solid but not spectacular. We’re pretty excited about Dance Central and Your Shape looked impressive at E3, but there are a bunch of games all aiming at the same market, and these are just the launch titles. There are three true sports games all coming out on launch day and four pure fitness titles being released; are companies going to saturate the market right from the start? How many Wii Sports knockoffs and generic fitness games will there be six months from now?

So now that you’ve seen the launch titles, are you more or less likely to run out and preorder Kinect? I’m personally still very much on the fence and leaning towards passing (at least for now), as the device seems squarely aimed at the casual crowd. I guess core gamers will have to sit out the controller-free revolution, at least for a while.
