A week or so ago I brought news of Shu Takumi’s (Ace Attorney series creator) involvement in writing the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton crossover title that is currently being developed for the 3DS by Level-5, but today we finally have a solid release date for Takumi’s own original CAPCOM creation, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, which will make it’s way to retail on January 11th in the United States. Although no solid date has been announced for Europe, it will likely fall close to the US date given the announced Q4 2010-Q1 2011 launch window.

If this is the first you are hearing of Ghost Trick, the game sees you controlling a recently murdered amnesiac that sets out to find the identity of his assailant. Using a number of different mechanics including the ability to manipulate environmental objects, re-live another victims last four minutes of life, as well as converse with the recently deceased, Ghost Trick should prove to be a solid puzzle experience on the DS. Although not known recently as a harsh critical voice in the Japanese market, weekly game magazine Famitsu gave the title a 34 (8/9/9/8) when it was released in June.
Sharing Ace Attorneys art style and aesthetic, Ghost Trick looks to make a story about a serial killer as stylish and cool as possible, and the proposition of this scenario has had me excited since the game was first announced. Look for more information about Phantom Detective as we inch closer to it’s January release date.
