Gamers who have been thinking about preordering the new Dragon Age but who have been dragging their feet may want to get motivated, as BioWare is offering a free limited-time upgrade to the game’s Signature Edition for early adopters. The offer is good until January 11, and can be obtained from any of your favorite retailers. Those who have already preordered the game need not worry, you’re automatically being upgraded to the new edition.
In addition to the Dragon Age 2 disc the Signature Edition is also slated to come with a bonus downloadable character and mission, a downloadable game soundtrack, an exclusive in-game digital armory and more. EA is putting the cash value on this bonus content at $20, but it will be free to anyone who preorders now.
While EA has been trying to incentivize new game sales through Project Ten Dollar, this is taking things a step further. Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect and other titles have included redeemable codes for extra content, but that was always packed into new copies of the game already on store shelves, not preorders. On the other hand, preorder incentives are nothing new, practically every big release has some extra goody for buying early, but few of them are this extensive.
So if you’ve been on the fence about the game it seems like now’s as good a time as any to go ahead and make the investment. Better to take the plunge now and get free stuff than wait for launch day and be left out in the cold. Hopefully there aren’t too many games that try this though, if so then I’m going to run out of money in a hurry.
