In a move that is likely to be filed under the heading of “cool, but two years late,” Nintendo is set to offer a new Wii Remote with MotionPlus built right into the tech. This new controller is set to be bundled with FlingSmash, which is currently slated to arrive on November 7. Nintendo has confirmed the new “Wii Remote Plus” exists, but has stated they have no further comment at this time.
We’re sure the new controller will be sold separately, but much like how Wii Play provided a free controller with purchase it seems like the most economic thing to do will be pick up FlingSmash when it launches with the bundled bonus. And what is this new game exactly? Well according to the description “FlingSmash combines the hands-on fun of tennis with the nonstop action and instant gratification of pinball. When the tropical Suthon Island is invaded by the evil Omminus, the ball-shaped hero, Zip, is summoned to save the day. Using the Wii Remote⢠controller with the Wii MotionPlus accessory, you’ll fling Zip at targets to smash your way across eight colorful worlds. Use the Wii Remote controller like a racket and watch Zip bounce around like a pinball to smash through oncoming barriers and enemies in this action sidescroller.”
Sound like fun? Yeah, we’re not sure either, but Wii Play wasn’t exactly amazing either and it sat on the NPD top ten list for something like 35 years. What we are excited about is built-in MotionPlus support, which we had kind of been expecting since day one. It also appears from the leaked images that the inclusion of the hardware inside the Wii Remote means the device will return to its normal size, so it becomes less of an unwieldy behemoth than the current MotionPlus snap-on model.
We’ll keep you posted on any news regarding the Wii Remote Plus as it becomes available. In the meantime, enjoy playing the Tiger Woods franchise, Wii Sports Resort and whatever handful of other games that actually support MotionPlus right now.
