In what was teased last week as an announcement for an announcement, we finally have the first solid details and media for the EA funded, Shinji Mikami and Gouichi Suda developed horror game now entitled “Shadows of the DAMNED.” It seems the game will follow demon hunter Garcia Hotspur as he sets out to the City of the Damned to rescue his girlfriend from some, yep, you guessed it, demons. It seems Garcia will be accompanied by a demon companion who can transform into a number of different weapons, making some sort of weapon upgrade system a likely possibility.
From watching the trailer and browsing the concept art there is no doubt that Shadows is a dark game that seems to opt for the art direction of Mikami’s Resident Evil as opposed to the colorful cartoon aesthetic of Suda’s No More Heroes. Gameplay looks like a pretty standard over the shoulder third person shooter, but I’m excited to see what Mikami can do with Suda when he is not bound by the ridiculously convoluted narrative that the Resident Evil series has become – Although the thought of Suda helming a game within the side show that Resident Evil has become makes me want that maybe even a little more.
Look for more news about Shadow of the Damned as it breaks, and look for it to hit retail sometime in 2011 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
