It wasn’t long ago that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick proclaimed that “”Our Spider Man Games Have sucked”. Although he said that he hadn’t played the newest games, he admitted that they got poor ratings because they were bad games. Spider man should be about web slinging, and their games had moved away from that. It seems that Bobby wants his company to make good games, not just hold good licenses.
This brings us to Shattered Dimensions, the all new spidey game from Beenox. Shattered Dimensions won’t just let you play Spider Man, but will let you play four different Spider… Men. You will be able to play through Spidey in the Amazing, Noir, 2099 and Ultimate universes. Spider Man will have some core abilities, as well as several abilities unique to each setting. Each Universe has a Spider Man voiced by a different voice actor who had played the character in the past. Many of the villains will retain voice actors of the past, including Nolan North returning as Deadpool. Man, that guy is in just about every game.
Activision seems to be taking the Spider Man franchise a bit more serious this time around. Batman: Arkham Asylum proved that a good game with a good comic license can be far more successful then a half hearted cash in. Transformers: War for Cybertron is a good example of Activision trying to turn things around, so Spidey fans should take heart in that. One thing is for sure: With those comments from the big boss man himself, you can bet that Shattered Dimensions is going to have a lot more web slinging this time around.
