Independent developer, Bungie appears to have saved their best for last as they push past an astonishing $200 million in sales on the first day for Halo: Reach. The last game in their vaulted franchise has not only furnished respective sales numbers for Bungie and Microsoft, but also surpassed the record for simultaneous Xbox Live connections on at one time.
Phil Spencer, speaking at the Tokyo Games Show this year stated that Halo: Reach sales have surpassed any other entertainment launch of 2010, beating out anything the movie, music or any other industries have created this year. With a Metacritic score hovering around 92% currently, it has been speculated that Halo: Reach may set overall sales records worldwide.
Sales in the UK alone show 300,000 units sold on day-one. This figure already puts the game in the top ten best selling titles ever in the UK and from day-one figures alone. Director General of UKIE, Michael Rawlinson stated, “This is excellent news for the videogames and interactive entertainment industry, demonstrating how games sales continue to increase despite difficult economic circumstances.”
All things aren’t considered sweet in the land of Microsoft however, there have been early reports that adopters of the 4Gb Xbox 360 S model have had numerous problems playing certain multiplayer aspects of the game. This issue is something that has been recognized by Microsoft and they have already released a statement stating they are working on a solution.
