Help Design the Final Stage of Child of Eden

User-generated content is all the rage right now, but how would you like to contribute to the creation of a game’s final stage. That’s precisely what’s happening as Ubisoft and Q? Entertainment are calling on regular folks like you to help them craft the ultimate stage in the upcoming Child of Eden. How can you take part? It’s easy, just send them a picture.

“Starting today, gamers are encouraged to submit their personal photos for consideration by visiting the Child of Eden website (www.childofedengame.com),” said Ubisoft in a statement. “Examples include smiling faces, beautiful nature shots, stunning landscape views, and other happy and positive images. The deadline for submissions is November 20, 2010. All approved photos will be featured in the final level of Child of Eden.

“The theme of Child of Eden is ‘Hope and Happiness’ and I want players to experience happy feelings every time they play the game,” said Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Q? Entertainment studio founder and Creative Director of Child of Eden. “I need your help to convey these positive emotions, so please send us pictures that give you good vibes so we can include them in the ending of the game.”

Sounds like a fun opportunity to showcase your shutterbug skills so what are you waiting for? Find yourselves some smiling babies or happy trees and get to snapping! Not only is this a cool design feature, but it’s also a great marketing opportunity for the game. All the folks who send in pics are going to want to see if their shot made it into the game, so they’re going to have to check the title out either by renting or buying. Even better, if their submission does make the cut those same folks are likely to hang onto the game for a long time, if not forever, just as a personal keepsake and a way of bragging to friends “check this out, I made it into a video game.” Kudos to you Ubisoft marketing department, you sly devils you.

Oh, and don’t even start with the whole “I’m not sure if I’m going to buy Child of Eden, what if it’s dumb?” It’s amazing, you’ll buy it, the end.
