BioWare Details Dragon Age Ultimate Edition

Have you somehow held off buying Dragon Age: Origins? Or perhaps you’ve played the game, but missed out on some of the DLC and expansions? If so then you’re in for a treat, as BioWare has detailed the contents of the Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition, and it’s quite substantial. Not only does the deluxe bundle include Origins and the expansion, Awakenings, but it also packs in all seven downloadable content packs released up until now, including the brand new Witch Hunt pack. BioWare went ahead and did the math, that’s $114 of content all jammed into a $60 bundle. Not too shabby for an older yet absolutely excellent game.

These bundles are great, but they show what a double-edged sword being an early adopter can be. If you’re someone who enjoyed the game enough to pick up all the bonus content then it likely stings at least a little to hear that those who buy the Ultimate Edition will be getting it all for free. Even those who only bought Origins and Awakenings find themselves out $40, so that hurts a bit.

We also wonder if BioWare plans to follow a similar track with other franchises. Mass Effect 2 has seen a ton of DLC, but should those gamers considering jumping into The Lair of the Shadow Broker hold off in the hopes of a similar deal for Commander Shepard and company? Do you take such packages as an affront to your loyal support for franchises and companies when they make you pay more up front, or are you so proud of the games and happy that others will have a chance to enjoy them as well you don’t mind the extra cost?

According to GameStop‘s website the Ultimate edition ships on Oct 12, so we’re less than two weeks away from slaying the Darkspawn once more. I’m personally very tempted to take advantage of this offer even though I’ve already played through Origins and Awakenings, how about you?
