August Sees Record Breaking Sales For XBLA

Spurred on by an influx of titles from Microsoft’s 2010 ‘Summer of Arcade’ initiative, August saw record breaking sales of 17.5 million dollars for downloadable titles on the Xbox Live Arcade. In a time when games and their budgets represent huge holes impeding the progress of development, it is fantastic to see that these indie developed (and big studio) games are actually making money. Also of note in August was Trine surpassing the 1 million mark and joining Uno, Castle Crashers and Battlefield 1943 in this distinguished category.

Here’s the full list of top ten games downloaded in August:

  1. Monday Night Combat (Uber Entertainment) – 187,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  2. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (Konami) – 131,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  3. LIMBO (Playdead) – 128,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  4. Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light (Crystal Dynamics) – 107,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  5. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Ubisoft) – 79,000 units (800 Microsoft Points)
  6. Hydro Thunder Hurricane (WB Games) – 50,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  7. Trials HD (RedLynx, LTD) – 47,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  8. Shank (Klei Entertainment Inc) – 41,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)
  9. Deadliest Warrior (Pipeworks Software) – 55,000 units (800 Microsoft Points)
  10. Castle Crashers (The Behemoth) – 31,000 units (1200 Microsoft Points)

And although not an official XBLA game, as of September 15th, Dead Rising: Case Zero recorded over 500,000 downloads as it makes a case for joining the elite few million sellers.
