In a tweet to his followers, Major Nelson (Microsoft’s Defacto Xbox Community Manager) announced changes to the pricing model for Gold Xbox Live subscriptions in the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Canada. Oddly enough the cost of online play and other gold exclusive content has now been raised in all four territories. A full year will now cost 59.99 if you are living in the US…
From Major’s Blog
“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.”
Man this is making Sony’s subscription service look ever more enticing. It blows my mind that this announcement would come with no information on new content that will be added to the service (Such as ESPN). Someone at Microsoft messed up big time.
Here is the diagram currently up on Major Nelson’s Blog.
