Gamers everywhere were intrigued when they first heard the concept behind Kane and Lynch. There is nothing like a good crime game and the multiplayer modes seemed extremely promising. You and your buddies try and rob a bank with one of you being a snitch. The robbers had to rob the bank while trying to discover who the snitch was. On top of that, the more people who died, the more loot you could get off with, so other members only needed to live long enough to play their part. Think the opening scene to The Dark Knight.
Unfortunately, the rest of the game failed to live up to expectations. Well, its time to take another go. Dog Days hopes to redeem the series and solidify itself as one of the finest crime game experiences. The single player mode follows co-conspirators Kane and Lynch, with the player taking control of Lynch this time around. Lynch has a couple of loose screws, which should make for an interesting narrative. All sorts of drama will unfold as the wanted men run from the law and the underworld, all the while stealing their share of loot.
The main focus should be on the innovative multiplayer. Although classic team death match will be available in the form of cops versus robbers, there are far more interesting modes in Dog Days. Fragile Alliance has the players grabbing as much money as possible while fleeing from the police. At any time players may choose to gun down their buddies and escape with their share of the loot. Undercover cop adds another variable as one random player becomes a cop and must bring the whole operation down. At the end of the match players will use their share of the winnings to buy weapons for the next match.
Reception of the original game was mixed and it definitely had its flaws. Hopefully IO Interactive has learned from the past and brought us a great title to round out the summer. I wouldn’t rush out for this one on day one, but keep an eye out for it if you want a late summer fling.
