Walmart to house Kinect bundle for under $200

It seems America’s favorite retailer is jumping on board with the next generation of movement controls and offering a bundle for the upcoming Microsoft Kinect. Walmart has officially begun pre-orders on their website for a bundle they’ve put together which features the Kinect camera device, a choice of a launch game as well as a $30 Walmart gift card.

The website has launched the bundled pre-order at a price of $199, making it a fairly decent deal for anyone wishing to jump into the controllerless gaming market. The choices of games are as follows.

  • Kinect Dance Central
  • Kinect Joy Ride
  • Kinectimals
  • Kinect Sports
  • Kinect Adventures

Walmart are also offering the chance to add another game to the bundle at an astonishing savings of $1 over the cover price if you had purchased it separately. That’s right, add another one of those fine games to the bundle for a mere $59 more. The Arkansas based retailer surely does have their finger on the pulse of this nation’s economy.

All of this is fine and it’s nice to see the new technology being pushed by the retailers, but I personally feel that this whole motion control system is a feeble attempt at tacking on a feature that was made popular by Microsoft’s competitor, Wii. I feel the same way about PlayStation’s Move device in that it is a little too late to try and catch a piece of the casual gamer pie with gimmicky game innovations that ultimately abandon their core audience. As evident by console sales numbers, Nintendo came in like gang busters in the beginning, but over the period of time since launch, the casuals have proven they do exactly what casuals do, and that is play casually.
