SDCC 2010: Capcom Panel

Capcom held a panel at San-Diego Comic-Con 2010, showing off some trailers dfor their upcoming projects with comments by some of the producers of the games, and moderated by Amy Poehler’s doppelgänger.

First, they showed off a trailer for Dead Rising 2, showing off the game’s new las Vegas pastiche Fortune City setting, and showing off some of the new weapons you can wield, like a wearable moose helmet that lets you attack enemies with its horn. You can also drink alcohol and throw up while fighting zombies, which is pretty much the quintessential Vegas experience. The game will be available September 28th on 360 and PS3.

Sengoku Basura: Samurai Heroes, for PS3 and Wii, had an all CG trailer shown off for it, showing off the intro cinematics for each character, but no in-game footage. From what could be seen on the show floor, this is a Dynasty Warriors-esque hack ‘n slash game, and will be released on October 12th.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will be coming to XBLA and PSN in early 2011, being an all-new game. Jumping is now present, but it’s only used to get over small obstacles and to make the game slightly less frustrating. I say slightly, ad the game is still designed to be obscenely challenging. The same music team from the original is working on the soundtrack for this game, and they are hosting a remix contest on http://bioniccommando.com for one person’s music remix to be eligible to be put into the game.

Okami Den is a sequel to Okami for the DS, having you play as a young Amaeratsu, resurrected to fight a new evil. Helping you out in your quest is a series of Hellers who ride you and assist you with their various abilities. The game is still cel-shaded and uses a 3D engine, both in behind the back and and top down views, and the painting mechanic is still in the game, now using the stylus to paint on the world. The game will be available in early 2010.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is an adventure game for the DS from the creator of the Ace Attorney series, and was introduced by the producer on hand with this awesome quote: “People pronounce my name as Take shit, but please be assured this game is anything but shit.” What certainly isn’t shit is the character animations, as the game takes place from a side scrolling perspective, and each character has impressive flowing animations, like something you would expect from an SNK King of Fighters game. You have 2 abilities – possession and manipulation of people and objects that you use to navigate and play in the game world. This game will be available in the US in Winter 2010.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Clash of Two Worlds is coming out next year for 360 and PS3, featuring the same kind of chaotic 3 on 3 fighting action its predecessor was popular for, with new characters like Deadpool, Chris Redfield, and Dante. The game now takes place in a 3D engine, but the fighting gameplay is all 2D, but the camera will change perspective for certain super moves. Keep an eye out for one of Deadpool’s special attacks, which has him hit the enemy with one of the health bars.

Finally, Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune was on hand to present a teaser trailer for Mega Man Universe, which didn’t really reveal much about the game beyond that Mega Man characters from all across the franchise (including the old cheesy 80s design from the original NES boxart of Mega Man 1) and even other Capcom characters will get involves, such as Ryu and Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Not much else is known about the game, and it is the only game shown off in the panel that isn’t playable on the show floor.
