2K Sports announced on Wednesday, June 3, that Michael Jordan would be the player on the cover of the next game in their NBA series, NBA 2K11. This will mark the first time in the series’ history that any non-active player is featured. Though the series has traditionally dominated the virtual basketball market, last year’s NBA Live 2010, from EA Sports, gave 2K10 a run for its money. As such, the question that begs asking is, are the folks over at 2K Sports using Jordan as a way to entice fans to remain faithful to their series, or is it simply an homage to Jordan, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in last year?
Though we always invite comments here at Games Are Evil, our questions are usually rhetorical. However, we’d actually like to hear what you think about this: Homage or Enticement?
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan
