I just talked to my local Gamestop dealer and got a bit of information that will probably interest most of you out there looking to trade in your “old” Xbox 360′s in order to get the new sleek and sexy 360 Slim.
First of all he said there will be NO RESERVATIONS for the system. Due to the fact that they just learned about it when the rest of us did, and they are already being sent. Since they only can place reservations on the first shipment (already in the mail) they can’t do any more. The REALLY bad news, is that they are only getting a couple per store. This is a marvelous business strategy for Microsoft. It will create immediate demand for the system and have people look for it for a long time. Remember when you couldn’t find N64 controllers anywhere, this is the same kinda thing. That’s the bad news. The good news is that he said they will be taking trade ins for the “old”systems for a while given the fact that no one basically will be able to get them first thing.
I actually got a pic of the email he received telling them what the trade in values will be for the system and some of the accessories. Here is the break down;
- Systems (since they are stand alone) will trade in for $100
- 20gb HDD – $30
- 60gb HDD – $35
- 120gb HDD – $40
- 250gb HDD – $50
- 64mb Memory Cards – $10
- 256mb Memory Cards – $14
- 512mb Memory Cards – $18
- Wireless adapter (original) – $40
- Wireless N adapter – $50
- Wired Controller – $20
- Wireless Controller – $25
So there you have it. Personally I will be trading in my system because it is past time on the warranty and I would rather get my money for the trade in now then get a RROD and get almost nothing for the trade. They have also, if you hadn’t noticed, dropped the price of the standalone system used to $159. Not a bad deal either if you don’t care about the slim look and just need to replace the old system you have.
