Games Workshop has a bit of history in crushing fans and their Internet fan pages based on Games Workshop IP’s. WarhammerAlliance.com is yet one more example of the bully coming to the bus stop. WarhammerAlliance.com is one of the larger fansites for the MMO Warhammer Online. Games Workshop is taking the operators of WarhammerAlliance.com, Curse, Inc to court.
The Cliff Notes version of this battle is due to Curse making money off of advertising while using Warhammer and warhammer trademarks on the WarhammerAlliance.com website. This is a weak argument from Games Workshop. Curse also has a World of Warcraft site up that brings in way more traffic than the Warhammer site. We don’t see Blizzard coming in to be all big an douche baggy.
Listen Games Workshop, you make more money selling your desktop gaming items than Curse is making off of advertising. Taking on a big fansite like WarhammerAlliance.com is ridiculous. They help spread the love of your brand around the net. Taking out one of the bigger fan sites so you can line your pockets only makes you look like Asses. How about you look the other way and let fans enjoy their beloved site?
