Survey Says: Skilled U.S. Game Developer Salaries Are Pretty Damn Good

A 2009 game developer salary survey has compiled all their results to bring us what the average Joe makes in the gaming industry.  The average salary for a U.S. game industry employee comes in at $75,573.  You can pick up your jaw now.  Like a kick in the balls, this is down 4% from 2008’s rocking salary of $79,000.  Still, 75k is not to shabby for working in an industry you love.

Now you really want to work in the game industry don’t you?  Where do you want to go though?  Those of you with a bit of creativity in the art and animation area can bank an average of $71,071.  Not to bad for your sweet doodling skills.

Game designers can look to net around $69,266.  Crack out some sweet music, or sound effects, and you could earn roughly $82,085.  Keep in mind that those people busting out music and sound effects are some of the most skilled developers in all the industry.

The highest paid people come in the form of the PR department.  Yeah, those crazy boss type people who lead the PR department make an average of $129,167.

We know that you just want to play games as a game tester though.  This highly sought after position brings in a whopping $37,905.  The QA department makes the lowest salary in all the industry.  We would take it either way.
