PC Game Ban Results in Father’s Slaying

I am sure most parents have been in this place at one point or another; After watching their son play PC games for nearly a week straight, they decided that the right thing to do was ban their child from playing for a while.  Not only is this a good idea, but it is solid parenting.

Over-stimulation of any kind of media is a bad thing, so like any smart parent would, they unplugged and removed the keyboard from their fourteen year-old son’s computer.  However, what happened next will horrify you:

“At around 1am (local time) on April 12, the suspect dealt his sleeping father at least two blows on the head with a sledgehammer,” the region’s investigative committee said.

“The man died on the spot from a head injury….

…After the killing, the boy’s frightened mother gave him the keyboard back and the boy played computer games for several more hours until he fell asleep, the spokeswoman said. — via News.com.au

Terrifying stories like this are becoming far too common in this day and age.  A messed up kid finds solace in the one place where he is accepted… most likely an online game.  This acceptance eventually turns into obsession, often leading to game binges like the parents of this deranged child encountered.  Unfortunately for the normal gamers out there, there are occasionally those who do not take this separation well, leading to disastrous results.

It makes me sick to think that this could have been triggered by gaming, but if you look at the facts, things certainly seem to point in that direction.  That is not to say that this is the cause, but merely a trigger. Obviously there were underlying issues that would lead to such a brutal attack, that reside far outside of the digital world.  The thoughts and prayers of everyone here at GamesAreEvil.com go out to the family of the slain father. No parent deserves that for trying to do the right thing…
