We see another reason why Steam rocks the house for PC game delivery. A recent patch released by EA removes that pesky SecuROM from Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This patch is only effective for those who bought the game on Steam. Those of you supporting your local stores are out of luck at this time.
EA has been battling the SecuROM hatred for ages. Remember how crippled Spore was on release? Not content with messing up a big release like Spore, EA then had to test the bloody waters again with Mass Effect. Both of these games saw the SecuROM get an axing at the end. Hopefully we see EA change their DRM practices at bit after this. Until then, SecuROM will continue to be a thorn in gamer’s sides.
