Avalanche Studios Goes Casual With New Expansive Worlds Studio

You might have heard of a little game from Avalanche Studios by the name of Just Cause.  Not satisfied with blowing stuff up on your television, Avalanche Studios has decided to take a step into the world of casual online games.

A new studio by the name of Expansive Worlds will be based out of Stockholm, Sweden.  The very first title from this new studio will come by the name of theHunter.  theHunter will be a free-to-play hunting game.  All the hunting action will take place right in your Internet browser.  Go to lunch, kick Bambi’s ass.  We sense a lot of people yelling “Tag it and bag it” during their lunch hours.

Focusing on community-driven content will be a main goal for Expansive Worlds.  Don’t rush to your browser just yet with the expectation of awesome free games.  Expansive Worlds is looking to make subscription-based titles as well.

Avalanche Studios plans on making Expansive Worlds part of their long-term strategy.  Part of this long-term strategy is to make the games rock your browser.  Using the Avalanche Engine,  the same engine that powers Just Cause 2, will make the Expansive Worlds games rock your browser.

We hope that this really means Internet gaming takes a turn for the awesome.  Flash games are great, but something that runs like Just Cause 2 will make that Internet addiction even worse.  We will keep our eye on this and let you know how it shapes up.
