UFC 2010: Fighting the Good Fight

With the fervor of Saturday’s UFC event for the fight between Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture, and Mark ‘The Hammer’ Coleman came the unveiling of the next UFC video game. Following in the footsteps of the highly successful debut of the THQ developed MMA title, UFC 2009: Undisputed, the 2010 version offers tons of improvements and a bevy of new modes that will make any fight fan excited.

Promising over 100 fighters sounds crazy, but the real test will be the implementation of the new fighter customization system which allows a free range of choice in moves, instead of relying on an individuals fighting style (which ultimately made a lot of the characters feel bland and similar). An overhaul of almost all of the fight mechanics should make the game a bit more realistic, while at the same time adding the variety and replayability that the first was lacking. The replayability will also be helped through the expanded modes which include a title defense mode and tournament style fights (Dream anybody?).

The big improvement from the first game seems to be the focus on the online connectivity that Undisputed: 2010 brings to the table. The ability to form fight camps with your friends and challenge other camps sounds like a blast, especially with how it seems like it will mimic the UFC’s own reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

It seems that THQ has definitely taken the criticisms of the first title to heart for this sophomore effort, and I look forward to it’s release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on MAy 25th.

**Also gotta give it up to my hometown boy for getting the cover: Go Brock!
