Imagine a basketball game where you could jump over the heads of your opponents, shoot three-point shots with fire coming from the ball, and break the backboard with stupendous dunks. Can you picture it? If you picture it in 8-bits, then surely you grew up playing NBA Jam. Many would argue that it is the greatest console arcade basketball game of all time. Now, as you bask in those fond memories, brace yourself for some of the greatest news to hit the Wii this decade. EA Sports has announced that they are reviving the series on the Wii.
With an ambiguous 2010 release set, EA Sports plans to bring the 1993 classic into the modern age, including updated physics and character models, new gameplay modes, and a new depth of character for the in-game avatars. According to EA, we can still expect the same in-your-face action that we experienced in the original, but now it will come with a bit more flair.
Head on over to the EA Sports NBA Jam website to learn more and participate in the polls to vote for the classic players you would like to see included in your favorite NBA teams. Before you go however, always remember…BOOOOOM SHAKA LAKA!
