London is coming Home

***UPDATE***

Due to circumstances involving Sony and Playstation Home, the release for The London Pub HomeSpace has been pushed back until January 14. So, if you were excited about sharing a virtual pitcher with your virtual friends, you’ll have to wait until next week.

Since the initial announcement of Sony’s social networking service, Home, gamers immediately began imagining a more beautiful and organized version of Second Life. When Home finally launched into open beta last year, it was beautiful, but it was an anorexic version of what we were expecting. In the world of Home, HomeSpaces are the real social hubs, and the latest release lets us relax with a pint and chat it up.

Created by VEMEE, LLP, The London Pub is a virtual pub complete with beer taps, a roaring fire, crank calls and darts. The pub overlooks the British House of Parliment to further the authentic feel. It is purely a social club, but it does not forego the gaming roots of Home. VEMEE has teamed with one of the worlds finest dartboard makers, Unicorn, to give away 30 real dartboards during the first 30 days of the pubs launch to high-score winners in darts competitions.

Priced at €4.99, the pub is currently only available in the European market. Nevertheless, the pub is hope that across all market we may soon begin to see Home transform into the social hub that it was supposed to be. Perhaps soon they’ll open up some of these spaces for public access. For now, if you have a European Playstation Network account and you want to play some darts and argue over Millwall vs. West Ham with your Home friends, then login into the PSN and grab it up.
