This week’s lone XBLA game is Qix++, an HD remake of the arcade classic Qix. The object of the game is to trap the Qix in a small segment of the board by cutting off sections of the board. Once you remove enough of the board, the Qix will be destroyed, and the round will be over. Any contact with the Qix will deplete your shields, so you’ll have to plan your moves carefully. Making matters worse, you will also have to contend with other enemy types that will chase you around the board trying to thwart your efforts. Fortunately, you can earn a wide variety of power ups such as a boost to your shields, and the ability to freeze time for a few seconds. Qix++ also includes local and online multiplayer. Up to four players can duke it out to see who scores the best while trying to defeat the Qix.
If you remember Qix from the good old arcade days, or if you just enjoy action puzzle games, Qix++ is a pretty solid purchase at 800 Microsoft Points. With an HD face lift, awesome power ups, and multiplayer, there’s something here for old fans and new ones alike.
