Well, it looks like I have some making up to do. Last week’s pick, Rouge Warrior, was not my greatest moment. To my credit, I did recommend waiting for the reviews to start popping up, just to make sure that nothing went horribly wrong. As it turned out… something did. Like the entire game… Oops!
I have a little more confidence in this week’s pick. Saboteur is that last game from the recently closed Pandemic Studios. While set in World War II, this is no Medal of Honor game. Playing the part of an angry Irishman who wants revenge for his fallen buddy, your goal is to hunt down the high ranking Nazi who killed him. Too bad for the Nazi’s he is so high ranking. An angry Irishman like you might accidentally free Paris on your quest for blood. There are some in-game stealth mechanics, but it doesn’t appear that you will be using them very much.
Sabateur has its own unique art style which paints some portions of Paris in black and white, leaving only some important details colored. Blood, explosions and important clothing items stand out in these areas. The black and white route has worked for some games and failed in others, but Saboteur seems to wear it well.
Overall Sabateur looks to be a solid shooter with an interesting twist. This isn’t a must have game, but if you miss killing Nazis and can ignore some historical inaccuracies, then this game is for you. So in lesser words, if you liked Wolfenstein then you should love this.
