Generally, games hit store shelves on a Tuesday. For this weeks big game you are going to have to wait until Saturday. Good thing too, because while your wallet my be empty from all of your holiday shopping, Christmas Day should provide you with plenty of gift cards. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Christal Bearers should get you lots of mileage on those gift cards if you are one of those elusive hardcore Wii gamers.
This Final Fantasy sequel (that’s still kinda weird to say) is set in the same land as previous Crystal Chronicles games. This time, however, the focus is on the single player portion rather then dungeon crawling with friends. While a single player driven Final Fantasy game swimming in cutscenes is far from new, an action RPG that isn’t driven completely by “hack and slash” is. Instead of mashing buttons, you utilize your character’s powers by grabbing things and throwing them with the Wii remote’s motion controls. A second player can join in the fun in select areas, helping in a minor way.
FFCC: CB won’t be here in time to help out shoppers who waited for the last possible minute, but its a solid start towards second Christmas in March. That is, if you can find a way to put down New Super Mario Brothers Wii.
