Well… duh.
As Activision likes to point out to its stock holders, Modern Warfare 2 is expected to be the best selling game of all time. Everybody knows it. Half of the games expected to come out this holiday season have tucked their tails between their legs and ran off to 2010 to avoid it. This is the first person shooter to rule all first person shooters. Infinity Ward’s track record is impeccable and they are once again expected to deliver.
The single player experience as always, will be short, but pushes the boundaries of story telling on the gaming platform. Their multiplayer is legendary. If you only play/buy one FPS game this year, it will probably be this one. Only a game this big could get away with some of the story archs that take take place, not to mention getting a free pass on blocking Xbox Live party chat.
Modern Warfare 2 is likely to be the best shooter so far this generation. The notable exception is the PC version of the game. Infinity Ward is taking a huge gamble on the PC by introducing IWNET, removing dedicated servers, mod tools and many other PC gaming staples. Because of this, I have omitted the PC version as my pick of the week. Stick to Team Fortress 2 for a while yet, just to see if Modern Warfare can prove itself worthy of your PC multiplayer dollars. A six hour single player isn’t going to be worth it if the multiplayer doesn’t work right. Listen tonight to this week’s EvilCast Recap podcast for a more in depth look at the PC version of the game.
