I would like to start off this week noting an honorable mention. Brutal Legend also hits shelves this week on the PS3 and 360. Following the adventures of a a rock ‘n’ roll roadie voiced by Jack Black, Brutal Legend is positioned to be one of the biggest games this holiday season. This is Double Fine’s first game since the highly acclaimed but poorly received Psychonauts. It is a can’t miss action game that could only be overshadowed by something as big as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Among Thieves is the much anticipated sequel to one of the PS3′s most successful new exclusive IP’s. This time, Drake leaves both the Jungle and the single player realm and has captured the collective hearts of critics everywhere. An engaging story with have you jumping through ice caverns, solving puzzles in ancient temples and battling foes on a moving train. Many of the greatest moments of the game will also be available in an online cooperative mode with up to two of your buddies.
The competitive multiplayer is is a new, but welcome addition. It uses a reward system which makes you more powerful in order to engage you. This is a good way to reward players for playing without using trophies that are near impossible to get (Killzone 2, anyone?). Not that you need much incentive, as the action and beautiful game world will keep you wanting more.
Another interesting feature is the ability to link Uncharted 2 to your twitter account. This is an interesting idea, but after a strong negative reaction in beta testing the feature has been disabled by default. You will still be able to link your account, but no posts will be made until a post release update introduces a revamped system and a cap on the amount of posts made.
Uncharted 2 is easily the biggest game this October, and a must buy for PS3 owners. It is expected that Uncharted 2 will be a big system pusher for the PlayStation 3 and is key to the Holiday success of the console. Move over Lara. Scoot down Doctor Jones. Drake is the next big treasure hunter.
